Contributions to the Eighth Brussels conference on the future of Syria and the region

15 Civil Society Support Room participants, including 9 women, have been invited to participate in the Day of Dialogue (DoD) from 28-30 April in Brussels, as part of the Brussels VIII Conference on “Supporting the future of Syria and the region”. They were selected by OSE-Syria following the invitation of EEAS, represented all geographies and were leaders of relief organizations, peace building and women organizations.

The group met regularly online for a month prior to the meeting and had a one-day in person meeting in Brussels. On 29 April, jointly with the Women Advisory Board, they had a two-hours high-level advocacy event with several Special Envoys for Syria, senior EU representatives and donor countries and the UN Special Envoy, Geir Pedersen, and Deputy Special Envoy, Najat Rochdi. Both groups presented their messages that they had developed. The CSSR participants focused on three issues: enabling the conditions for a safe, calm, and neutral environment; ensuring an effective balance between the components of the Triple Nexus; and protecting and consolidating the civic space.

One representative of the group delivered a joint statement of the group at the Ministerial meeting of the eight Brussels conference on 27 May 2024.
